Hyundai Motor India’s disability-focused CSR initiative ‘Samarth by Hyundai’ hosted a special innovation showcase where a home-grown start-up unveiled a breakthrough hand Neuro-rehabilitation device that promises to restore fine motor control for thousands of persons with upper-limb disabilities.

The device, named “NeuroGrip”, uses artificial intelligence, functional electrical stimulation (FES), and gamified therapy to help stroke survivors, spinal cord injury patients, and individuals with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or traumatic hand injuries regain grip, pinch, and finger extension movements. Mr. Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said at the event:

“Through Samarth, we are committed to creating an inclusive society where technology dissolves barriers. NeuroGrip is a perfect example of Indian innovation directly improving quality of life for PwDs.”The start-up, ReHabtronics from IIT Madras Research Park, claims that patients using NeuroGrip for 45 minutes daily over 12 weeks showed an average 68% improvement in Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) scores in clinical trials conducted at Christian Medical College, Vellore.Ms. Priya Sharma (quadriplegic since a road accident in 2021) demonstrated the device live: “Before NeuroGrip, I could not even hold a spoon. After three months, I can now feed myself, type on my phone, and even paint again.
